Frequently Asked Questions

What is telematics?

The word Telematics refers to a wide range of technologies that monitor vehicle and driving information. Overall, telematics systems play a significant role in improving efficiency, safety, and convenience in various settings.

DDS telematics systems use device data and sensors to collect information about a vehicle, including vehicle health data as well as driving data like speed, acceleration, braking, and cornering.

DDS telematics systems can be used by any sized business that wants to track vehicles, improve driver safety or to obtain insurance. We specialize in small and medium sized fleets, some of whom only have one vehicle.

Our GPS devices are very affordable and include your own custom dashboard and mobile app for drivers. We also have provide camera systems that have the added benefit of video clips. Both options provide significant benefits for you and your drivers.

Our most popular units are small GPS devices or dongles that are simply plugged into a vehicle’s onboard diagnostics (OBD) port. This makes the device easy to install and provides data when the vehicle is active.

Our cameras come with installation accessories and can usually be installed in a matter of minutes.

Other options exist such as using a splitter or installing the devices elsewhere in the vehicle.

After you install the devices in the vehicle, and after vehicle has been driven, you should be able to begin seeing data – in the dashboard and also through our app.

If you are the authorized administrator for your system, we will provide you with a web portal URL along with a login and password so you can access your vehicle and driver information. You will be given the ability to see all your drivers in your fleet and also assign access to others in your company.

A growing number of insurance carriers are recognizing the proven benefits of telematics for improving safety and preventing theft. By agreeing to equip your vehicles with telematics devices and sharing your information with the carrier, either directly or through a third party like DDS, you may be able to realize significant financial benefits.

Your potential savings often depend on your risk exposure, loss history and willingness to participate in the telematics program.
